Royal Ascot here we come ...

... but alas without Kenny's Green Emerald . He will still get an entry for one of the handicaps there but really can't see him getting in off his present mark . Not that he ran a bad race - just got done for a bit of toe in the the final two furlongs .
It was a sunny Sandown Park last evening - though a bit cool and blustery . William Buick took the ride and what a lovely lad he is ! Now Willie is a fantastic top-jock - ridden classic winners all over the world - but not on this occasion ! Now I've been plagued with some pretty atrocious rides last season - Geoffrey's at Cheltenham - Brucie's latest at Plumby come to mind - but they were both ridden by apprentices - and that's what can happen . Poor Willie - he was supposed to be up with early pace and then stretch them up the hill - but never got the horse in the right position. But probably - in-truth - the horse was just not good enough !
Another dream shattered ! Oh well - he'll make a cracking novice hurdler next season !
Nice to see Watters there last night . John Watmore - using his proper name - is a keen photographer - so I'm hoping he's got some of last evening and can show them on ' la blog' . Good luck John .
I do have some stuff of 'The Brothers' enjoying the summer weather on their hols but I need to download them first . To follow . CU

Waiting on a sunny day

So I've been told off - by The Anorak - that La Blog has been a bit quiet of late . Well - things have been ! Spoke to DP the other day and he sent me of a video of George in the paddock but it's on a 'flip' thing and I've yet to get the apt . It would be nice to get it on La Blog . Bruce is fine after his disappointing run latest and trainer and owner have just put it down to wrong tactics - or - shall we say - terrible ride !

And I'm waiting on a sunny day to get down to Kelanne Stud to take photos of mum and daughter . Might be a wait ! But hopefully by the end of the month .

Poor old Kenny Rat went all the way to Doncaster last Saturday evening only to have Dark Emerald withdrawn from his race due to heavy rain and the ground changing to soft . I think they did the right thing - frustrating as it was . He's now going to Sandown on Thursday - much better for yours truly and will be going to support them . Photos to follow .

And as The Anorak says another racing mate of ours - Steve Nelson - had a couple of runners last weekend . I suppose they were both a bit disappointing but Newmarket and York aren't the easiest places to win . It's a long season and their will be more opportunities for them .

And again - me other mate ( yes - there are three ) Nick - who now lives across the Pond - is doing well in his fight against the dreaded C . I know Nicks on a chemo' course so thoughts with ya old bean . Get rid of it and CU soon .

Not quite what we were expecting ! However - DP reports that he's well this morning - ate up last night and no worse for his exploits yesterday . The plan was for him to be up with the pace but not to lead . Running too freely from the off he didn't have enough in the locker to repel the challengers . He's better than that and will be ridden differently next time . Why Kieron didn't ride him like last time only 'him up there' knows !  

But all was not lost ! The Queens runner - Franklin Roosevelt and trained by DP - duly won at a very tasty 5-1 under an inspired ride by Tom Scu . We had a very nice Sunday lunch before hand at The Half Moon pub at Plumpton and demolished a celebratory bottle of champagne on the drive home . Unfortunately The Queen was driving so didn't get any !  CU

Brucie is a confirmed runner at Plumpton on Sunday . It's a step up in grade and a nice prize . He's in good form at home ( they all are ) and has a strong chance of landing the hat trick .

The photo here is of the boys at Royal Obidos . Left to right - Ed - 20 odd years head lad at Pond House and brilliant MCP impersonator - yours truly - top owner and tosser - Kenny Rhatigan - won golf every day off a fictitious handicap - and Josh Aliafi who thinks he's Ian Poulter .
Ken has his Uncle Dermot running in the 6-15 at Nottingham this evening and at 12-1 has a solid ew chance . After the week we've had we certainly could do with a winner so lets hope Brucie can double up ! CU

I'm away in Portugal this week playing golf with Ken and if he mentions that f......g horse and Royal Ascot again I swear I'll hit him ! C U
