Only Witness ...

... bless him - goes today at Warwick - in probably what will be his last race . He's retained all his old ability but he's gradually gone up the weights over the years and - well - a bit like his owner - seems now to have developed a 'dont think I can be arsed' mentality . Not much good for this business !
More news on Geoffrey a bit later - CU

Who Needs Horses ....

.... when you can share in others . I think this racing lark is fantastic - and who needs a runner ! Obviously we were all disappointed when Geoffrey was declared a non-starter on Saturday but having made all the arrangements for the weekend we decided to make the best of it and make the long journey north to support Un Temps Pour Tout !
A new and very expensive ( cost something like £450k ) French recruit - Un Temps Pour Tout - is owned jointly by the very lovely Professor (no less) Caroline Tisdall and the equally lovely ( but certainly no professor ) Brian Drew . (Yea - him with the hat) . Brian and his son Harry come up to support us when Geoffrey won the Brush Hurdle back at Haydock last November so it was may chance to return the the favour .
Un Temps - pictured - ran a tremendous race in coming 2nd. Obviously we all would've loved him to have won - not to be - but looked a picture in the paddock - and the different style of hurdles caught him out a bit . Once DP gets his jumping a bit more slick then he'll be winning lots of races .
As for Geoffrey's race I really don't think we would have beaten Tarquin du Seuil - who was very impressive . And as for Geoffrey - well - just one of those things . Maybe it was good race to miss . Opportunities for him are getting a bit thin now - but I'm sure he'll be out shortly .CU

Haddock and chips ?

Sorry about that - my little 'Rogism' ! Anyway - Geoffrey heads off to Haydock Park tomorrow for a nice Gr2 novice chase . He was also entered Bangor !!! on Monday - what a shame it's been abandoned due to water logging !!!
DP retorts that Geoff has schooled well and is well - so we take our chance in what will be a tricky race . Most important thing is for him to jump round and come back safely . The trip is probably a bit on the short side - 2 1/2 m - but with the going 'heavy' hopefully will play to his stamina - and he's won there twice before . CU

Up Date

A quickie - just to say Geoffrey does not run tomorrow at Warwick . Tom Scu has to be at Kempton for the Gr1Tolworth Hurdle with The Liquidator - and although we would've been happy with Connor to take the ride DP wanted Scu on board for his first chase . Fair enough . Haydock next Saturday is now on the agenda . CU

Happy New Year ...

... to my reader - albeit a belated one . Hasn't been much to report except sorry for all that crap that's been posted on La Blog . Can't remove it till back in the office and away skiing at the moment - so bare with it !

Still we do have an entry for Geoff - at Warwick this Saturday - in a decent Gr2 novice chase . He really needs to win - or close to it - to be considered for a crack at the RSA in March - but hey-ho - worth giving it a crack . Anyway - he should love the ground . Let's hope the meeting is not abandoned !

I had a quite Christmas - racing wise . Did have a really good Boxing Day at Kempton though . It's been a few years since I've not had any runner - and to be honest - I felt rather relaxed . We went along to support John White and his Dynaste and amazingly managed to somehow worm our way into the Royal Box - so champers and eats all afternoon - and good fun . Can't say I had a winner and Dynaste disappointed ( came back slightly lame ) but Nicola had a
12-1 shot go in .
Apart from that it's all been a bit of a 'damp squib' with so much rain and so many abandonments . But let's hope things pick up - starting on Saturday! CU
